DOCTOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (DBA)

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is an executive programme based on scientific research activities. It aims at improving business and managerial practices by improving the students' personnel, intellectual and academic skills.

In line with the University's vision and mission, DBA programme integrates both Islamic and conventional perspectives that are at par with other international doctoral programmes in Business Administration.

Upon completing the programme, students are expected to:

  • Acquire an in-depth knowledge of cutting edge theories in business and management field.
  • Generate, design and conduct independent research in various business administration areas.
  • Effectively communicate research based solutions and demonstrate leadership qualities in bringing organizational change.
  • Assess, articulate and make ethical and socially responsible business decisions.

WHO IS IT DESIGNED FOR?

The IIUM DBA is designed for those with managerial working experience who wish to enhance their professional practice and deepen their management knowledge and skills in the field of business administration through intensive study and research.


WHY IIUM DBA?

IIUM DBA candidates will acquire an in-depth knowledge of cutting edge theories in management and master the skills expected of senior level managers in the era of globalization. The ability to identify, critically analyze and evaluate business problems and synthesize solutions will also be acquired.

Entry Requirement

1. Master's from IIUM or any other institutions of higher learning approved by the University Senate; OR

2. A professional qualification which is certified equivalent to a master degree under Malaysian laws and approved by the University Senate can also be considered.

3. Proficiency in English language (where necessary candidates may be required to sit for an English language proficiency test)

The coursework component of the programme comprises 12 courses. Candidates will be evaluated through individual and/or group assignments, quizzes, presentations, mid-term tests and final trimester examinations and must achieve a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 or better.

Comprehensive Examination

**All DBA students are required to sit for the Comprehensive Examination to fulfill their graduation requirement and to register for research work. The Comprehensive Examination is a standardized essay that accesses students' knowledge and critical thinking in the business administration field. It is designed to integrate and focus knowledge gained from courses and professional reading.

2. CONSULTANCY MANAGEMENT - DBA 7770

Semester 1 and 2 Year 2, candidates are required to manage a consultancy project which carries 6 credits. Using the action research methodology, management consultancy provides an avenue for candidate to apply the theoretical knowledge obtained from other DBA courses. A key objective of the consultancy management course is to develop client and management intervention for chosen organizations.
