MASTER OF ISLAMIC REVEALED KNOWLEDGE AND HERITAGE (ARABIC LITERARY STUDIES)

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this programme is to produce graduates with in-depth knowledge of Arabic Literary Studies. From the aspects of national aspiration and global importance, this programme aims to produce graduates who have the ability to apply their knowledge and skills as well as communicate well in Arabic to contribute at the international stage and realise the features of a Malaysian society as envisioned in Vision 2020.

The core knowledge aread that are necessary for the understanding of the Master of Arts in Arabic Literary Studies programme are:

  • Principles of Arabic Grammar
  • Theory of Literature
  • Islamization of Linguistics and Literary Studies
  • Language and Computer
  • Research Methodology in Linguistics
  • Modern Linguistics
  • Syntactic Studies

The methodology used in the programme includes lectures, discourses, coursework, examinations, presentations, article and book reviews, consultations, researches, as well as dissertation/thesis. Field studies and surveys are also required wherever applicable.


PROGRAMMES OFFERED

1. General Academic Qualifications

a. A relevant Bachelor's degree with good grade from IIUM or any other accredited institutions of higher learning.

b. Any other certificate that is recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor's degree or relevant professional qualifications and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University.

2. Specific Requirements

a. Obtained a CGPA of 2.75 and above in a related field; or

b. Obtained a CGPA less than 2.75 but possesses relevant working experience in the field applied.

3. Language Requirements

a. Thesis written in Arabic language:

  • Minimum score of 425 TOEFL or Band 3 for IELTS.

b. Thesis written in English language:

  • Minimum score of 550 TOEFL or Band 6 for IELTS.

PROGRAMME DURATION

As per IIUM Postgraduate Regulations for full time students, minimum duration of one (1) academic year with extension of maximum four (4) academic years.

MODE OF PROGRAMME

These Master programmes will be offered by research and non-residential mode only. However, four (4) workshops / seminars will be arranged on different issues / topics considering the needs of the candidates to facilitate their study and writing thesis. Workshops / seminars will be conducted at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
