Master of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh

This Master's programme is designed to cater for candidates who intend to acquire specialized knowledge in the fields of Islamic Jurisprudence. Currently, it offers specialized courses on Islamic Jurisprudence and in line with the University`s aspiration, these courses are research oriented. To develop research ability in the students, they are exposed to critical treatment of juridical legacy in the field. This is carried out via research projects, seminars and forums which are part of the students` academic life.



1-Attendance in workshops/seminars on research methodology and related issues as determined by the faculty.

2-Submission of a thesis written in Arabic that contains original contribution to existing knowledge. The length of the thesis should not in principle exceed 50,000 words. 

3- Obtaining one of the following prior to graduation:

 i. Band 3 of IIUM's English Placement Test (EPT)

 ii. Score of 30 on TOEFL (Internet-based); or

iii. Band 3 on IELTS.


1.      Academic requirement

      - A relevant bachelor's degree from universities recognized by the IIUM Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 or an equivalent grade.*


2.      Language requirement

          - Band 7.0 on IIUM's Arabic Placement Test.

(This requirement may be waived if the candidate is a native speaker of Arabic or has undergone the undergraduate and master's degree programmes which use Arabic as the medium of instruction).


*Candidates with lower scores/grades may be considered with sufficient working experience.
